AKB48’s Kuramochi Asuka throws a dead ball during opening pitch
French Kiss, sub-unit of popular idol group AKB48, threw the first pitch for the baseball match between Yokohama DeNA BayStars and Tokyo Yakult Swallows at Yokohama Stadium on July 18th.
Kuromochi Asuka is the daughter of Kuromochi Akira, a former pitcher for the Yakult Swallows. It’s been close to two years since she last pitched, and Kuromochi threw the ball with all her strength. However, the ball strayed left, bounced once, and hit Uchimura Kensuke from DeNA BayStars.
Born and raised in Yokohama, Kuramochi has been to the Yokohama stadium many times. Kuramochi pitched a dead ball despite receiving advice from DeNA pitcher Miura Daisuke and having played catch with her dad since she was young. She commented that when her parents greeted her after the pitch, her dad told her, “I can’t believe you pitched a ball that bounced once!”
Kashiwagi Yuki, fellow French Kiss member, had more encouraging words for her, “The way you brought your leg up when you pitched was really cool!” Member Takajo Aki commented that because she’s good as sports, she would like to try to pitch next time, and Kashiwagi responded hesitantly, “If both of you pitched, and we will be taking turns then I guess I will do it too…”
For the opening pitch ceremony, French Kiss performed their newest single “Romance Privacy“. Dressed in cute costumes, the girls were a refreshing presence in the hot and humid weather.
