Ueto Aya remains the CM Queen in the first half of 2012

On August 8th, Video Research Ltd. once again released various statistics about the usage of commercials in the first half of 2012. As usual, they concentrated their analysis on the three main regions of Japan (Kanto, Kansai, and Nagoya) and the five main commercial networks.
The results show that the amount of commercials slightly increased again by 3% in all three regions compared to last year. Especially the number of commercials that air during a program recorded a sharp increase by more than 20%, while the number of spots that air in between programs haven’t changed much. Looking at the different categories of commercials, it’s the general automobile commercials that eventually climbed up at the top again with an extreme increase of 161.1% in Kanto, 164.3% in Kanto, and 161.9% in Nagoya.
After suffering from the Great Tohoku Earthquake last year, the automobile industry are experiencing tailwind again this year. The eco-car tax reduction also caused an increasing number of commercials (approximately 150%) for light motor vehicles in all three regions.
When looking at the talents used in commercials, it was actress Ueto Aya that claimed the top in all three regions again. Actress Takei Emi claimed second place in Kanto, while AKB48’s Oshima Yuko came in second place in Kansai and Nagoya. Third place went to AKB48’s Maeda Atsuko in all three regions. Two people experienced huge boost during the first half of 2012, actress Gouriki Ayame and actor/comedian Takada Junji, who both jumped from the 300th place and beyond into the top 20 in all three regions.
You can check out the talent rankings below!

Nogizaka46 chosen as new CM characters for House Foods’ “Megashaki”

On July 18th, Nogizaka46 attended a CM presentation event for House Foods‘ carbonated drink, “Megashaki“, as its new CM characters.
Nogizaka46 formed in August of last year as the official rival of AKB48, and made their debut in February. Sakurai Reika expressed, “We have to aim really high. We will do our best to catch up to them as soon as possible.” She also commented on this year’s ‘Kohaku Uta Gassen‘ saying, “If we have a chance, we’d like to appear.
As their short-term goal, Sakurai revealed that they’d like to “actively hold concerts.” The group’s center Ikoma Rina added, “I want to hold one in my hometown of Akita! Since it’s always left out during tours.” Hearing Ikoma’s statement, Matsumura Sayuri said, “At first, she looked like she was from the countryside, but now, she’s the one pulling Nogizaka.
Nogizaka46’s 3rd single, “Hashire! Bicycle“, will be used in the new CM for House Foods’ “Megashaki” starting July 23rd. The highlight of this CM is the scene where the members get soaking wet.
The scene where we stand under a waterfall was very cold so it was really difficult,” Sakurai reflected. Meanwhile, Hashimoto Nanami said, “The first and second times were difficult, but the third time, we were in high spirits so we had fun.
After energetically performing “Hashire! Bicycle”, Sakurai shared, “It’s an uptempo song that’s different from our songs up to now. It’s a song that will get you excited, and it’s also perfect for the summer.

AKB48 to appear in upcoming Hewlett-Packard CMs

AKB48 has been made the image character for Hewlett-Packard’s latest Japanese commercials yet again, but this time featuring a new line-up of girls!
The group’s last endorsement with HP starred AKB48 members Maeda Atsuko, Shinoda Mariko, and Kojima Haruna, among others, but their new CMs will feature six new girls.  AKB48’s Watanabe Mayu, Shimazaki Haruka, and SKE48 (and AKB48) member Matsui Jurina will be featured in the “Ultrabook” version of the commercial, while Nagao Mariya, Oba Mina, and Iriyama Anna will star in the “Standard Note Laptop” version, appealing to consumers with the way they enjoy themselves while using HP computers.
While filming for the commercial, state-of-the-art equipment was used to project home-like images onto the set’s three walls. “The technology for filming is getting more and more advanced, isn’t it?” commented Watanabe with a smile about her latest endorsement. “I’ve never done a shoot like it so it was difficult, but I feel like I’ve achieved something!”
The commercial will be set to a short clip of their upcoming song “Show fight!“, sung by the unit Future Girls (consisting of the girls who achieved 49th ~ 64th place on the “AKB48 4th Senbatsu General Election). The commercials begin airing on July 14th.
