Nogizaka46’s “Hashire! Bicycle” sells 187,000 copies, tops Oricon weekly chart
Idol group Nogizaka46’s 3rd single “Hashire! Bicycle” (released August 22nd) has sold 187,000 copies in its first week, topping the Oricon weekly charts for September 3rd.
The first week sales for this single have exceeded their previous single “Oide Shampoo” (released in May), which sold 156,000 in its first week. With this, the group has set a new record for themselves since making their debut in February.
For this week’s album ranking, Nogizaka46’s “official rival group” AKB48 claimed first with their latest album “1830m” (released August 15th) for the 2nd week in a row. AKB48 and their related groups have topped the single and album rankings for 12 weeks of the year. However, this is the first time the groups have topped both rankings simultaneously.

Maeda Atsuko graduates from AKB48 with a smile
On August 27th, Maeda Atsuko (21) appeared at AKB48 Theater in Akihabara, as a member for the final time, and officially graduated from the group.
Maeda joined AKB48 as the 1st generation member when she was 14 years old, and had led the group as its “immovable ace” since then.
At Maeda’s graduation performance, 28 members gathered, and each member made their farewells to Maeda. Then Maeda said toward the members, “I know we all have been through some tough times over the past 7 years. There was a time when all of us said nothing but wanted to quit, but the reason why we were able to overcome the hardships, is that we had each other, and pursued one dream all together.”
Then she looked out over the members, and said “Today, I can tell you this with a smile. Thank you very much for everything up until now.” She continued, “I love this theater, and love all of you members I danced together on this stage, and people who has supported me, so much. I’m not sure if it was long or short this past 7 years was, but I can say that it was the best 7 years. Everybody, thank you very much. This is from AKB48 team A’s Maeda Atsuko. Thank you very much.” with a deep bow. After that, the members performed the last song “Sakura no Hanabira tachi” together.
In the very end, Maeda stood on the stage alone, and said to the fans, “I’m happy to be able to come back here to you fans on the next day of the Tokyo Dome concert. This made me realized again that this is AKB48, and that I was able to stay in such a wonderful place. It was the happiness that was too good for me. I’m really happy that I was able to encounter the members, the staff members, and of course, all of you fans. Thank you so much everybody. Thanks to you guys, I was able to graduated without any trouble. I will try my best from here on. Thank you very much.” Maeda then gave a deep bow once again, and left the stage with a smile.
Maeda Atsuko makes a surprise appearance on the balcony
As we reported, Maeda Atsuko’s last performance as an AKB48 member at the AKB48 Theater in Akihabara ended not too long ago. However, a numerous amount of fans who weren’t able to get a ticket for the performance have been gathering around the theater since long before the actual performance and were hoping to catch a glimpse of Maeda in public despite the canceled parade.
The police and the theater’s security had a lot of trouble keeping the people away from the street and the entrance, since they excitedly approached every large car that was entering the theater’s proximity with the hope that some of the members – or even Maeda herself – could be inside one of them. The security kept on telling the fans that every member was already inside the theater and that there hasty actions would be futile.
However, 30 minutes after the performance, Maeda really made a surprise appearance at the balcony of the theater with a megaphone and thanked all of them for their support. The now over 500 fans became ecstatic, waved their hands and shouted her name in response. She has only been up there for around two minutes, but the excitement of her fans already reached its climax. Before disappearing again, she called out to them, “Please be safe on your way home!”
Of course the 500 fans didn’t just dissolve after her surprise appearance on the balcony and the security continued to have their hands full urging them to go back home. Many fans simply ignored them and continued to cheer for their idol.

Maeda Atsuko’s speech at the final day of Tokyo Dome concert
On August 26th, Maeda Atsuko gave a speech to her fans during the encore of AKB48’s final day at their Tokyo Dome concert, ‘AKB48 in TOKYO DOME ~1830m no Yume~‘.
Maeda tried to hold back tears while receiving an “Acchan” and “Atsuko” call from the crowd of 48,000 people. She raised and lowered her microphone a number of times before slowly beginning her speech.
Below is a translated speech from Maeda:
-
“I was shy ever since I was small. Whenever someone talked to me, I would immediately hide behind my mom. It’s a mystery that a person like me can stand in front of 48,000 people right now. I’m full of happiness.-
Honestly, I’m very sad. However, it’s the path I’ve decided for myself. I would like to take a step forward from here.
To everyone who has supported someone like me as a member of AKB48 until now, thank you very very much.
(Maeda keeps her head lowered during a minute of Acchan call.)
Please continue to support AKB48 in the future. I’m really a fortunate person to be able to start my journey with so much people supproting me from behind. AKB48 was my entire youth.“
Maeda Atsuko’s graduation concert will be held on August 27th at AKB48 Theater in Akihabara. The concert will also broadcast live via YouTube and Google+ so don’t miss out!

AKB48 announced a big team shuffle on the first day of their 3-day concert at Tokyo Dome, ‘AKB48 in TOKYO DOME ~1830m no Yume~‘. On the same night, members Miyazawa Sae, Takajo Aki, Nakagawa Haruka, and Suzuki Mariya each expressed their thoughts about their transfer through their official blogs and Google+ accounts.
On her transfer to SHN48 (Shanghai, China), Miyazawa explained, “It wasn’t recommended by Akimoto-sensei, but it was something I decided for myself,” and continued, “I want to bet my life on SHN48. Since I will be going and participating, I will give it my best, even if it costs me my life.” She ended it with, “I don’t regret the decision I made.”
Meanwhile, Takajo, who will be transferring to JKT48 (Jakarta, Indonesia), stated, “I’m sorry to have startled you. This transfer was something I decided myself!“ She further explained, “I thought that if I don’t take a step forward and challenge myself to something, it would come to an end. So everyone! Please don’t abandon me until my dreams come true. Someday, when my dreams come true, I hope to return the favor.”
Nakagawa also commented, “When Akimoto-sensei told me about going to JKT48, I wanted to go from the very beginning. It’s not that I don’t like being in AKB48, but I want to go overseas and test myself! I want to take on the challenge! That’s what I thought!!!!” She cheerfully declared, “Jakarta is far from Tokyo, but wherever I go, I won’t change!”
Finally, Suzuki said, “I will do my best to start up SHN48. I want to experience and be stimulated by the things AKB48 will do to build up the group from scratch.”

Former HKT48 member Sugamoto Yuko explains her reason for leaving the group
Former HKT48 member Sugamoto Yuko recently uploaded a video on YouTube explaining the true reason for her withdrawal from the group.
The video starts with Sugamoto saying, “I released this video because I wanted to express my gratitude for my fans and explain the reason for quitting from my own mouth.”
Sugamoto revealed that there were two reasons for her withdrawal. The first, she explained, “I’m in the last year of high school, and while my friends are deciding on what path to take, I became troubled myself. I felt that I wanted to pursue cooking.”
Regarding her second reason, she stated, “First of all, I owe everyone an apology,” and confessed, “I did the wrong thing. That is, I commented a specific fan, and sent a message to another.”
Sugamoto then apologized to her fans saying, “I did it with an easygoing feeling. I’m very sorry to have done something to betray everyone who has supported me.”
Concerning the rumors on the internet, Sugamoto refuted them saying, “I don’t smoke or drink… I have never gone drinking with a fan, or slept over their place.” Finally she stated, “There are rumors spreading, so I wanted to deny them from my own mouth.”
With the sudden withdrawal of 5 members, many are speculating that the other members have quit for the same reasons. “I don’t know the details about the other girls, but I know that they each quit while chasing after their dreams,” she said.
You can check out Sugamoto’s video below.
Maeda Atsuko’s parade in Akihabara canceled
It’s been reported that AKB48’s Maeda Atsuko parade through Akihabara scheduled for August 27th has been canceled.
After applications for her graduation concert exceeded expectations, Maeda requested, “Isn’t there any way I can greet them directly?” Consequently, her parade was planned for the 27th, in which she was to bid her final farewell to her fans before her graduation concert at AKB48 Theater.
The Olympics Medalist Parade was recently held in Ginza on August 20th attracting about 500,000 people to the event. As the police expected a large population to also gather at Maeda’s parade, they received instructions for cancellation due to security concerns.
Although the parade has been canceled, Maeda’s graduation concert will be held at AKB48 Theater as planned. This concert will broadcast live on Fuji TV’s ‘HEY!HEY!HEY!‘ as well as on AKB48’s Google+ and YouTube accounts.

Sugamoto expressed her gratitude toward her fans saying, “To the fans who supported Yuko, who is negative and a crybaby, thank you. I was happy. I love you all very very much! I’ll always always love you!” Meanwhile, Taniguchi wrote, “Since it was decided suddenly, there may be fans who are confused. I’m very sorry to have worried you.”
Regarding the reason for their withdrawal, Nakanishi explained, “I became negligent toward my studies, and I disliked myself for not being able to do the things I used to be able to do. Additionally, Eto commented, “I don’t regret leaving HKT48. I am positively thinking about the future. I want to return to being an ordinary girl, and do my best with my studies.” She continued, “I still have a dream. I haven’t given up on that dream. My dream is now far, but someday, I will return.”

Nogizaka46 to hold audition among members for voice acting
It’s been revealed that idol group Nogizaka46 will be holding an audition among the members to voice act in the Hollywood film, ‘The Hunger Games‘.
Captain Sakurai Reika commented, “To be able to challenge voice acting in a Hollywood mega-film is like a dream, a big surprise news!” She also declared, “This time, there will only be 1 role, but the 33 of us will do our best to survive.”
‘The Hunger Games’ is based on a best-selling novel by Suzanne Collins that was released in the United States earlier in March. It’s the first movie since ‘Avatar‘ to top the box office 4 weekends in a row. The story is set in North America after the collapse of the modern civilization. There, 24 participants representing 12 districts are chosen to battle to their death until only 1 person remains.
The member who passes the audition will voice Rue (played by Amandla Stenberg), a young girl representing District 11 who is also the rival of protagonist Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence / voiced by Mizuki Nana).
Center Ikoma Rina expressed, “I’ve admired the job of a voice actress. It’s like a dream, so I’m quite excited! Although only 1 will be chosen out of 33, I am fired up to win this important role. I will do my best to meet everyone on the big screen!”
‘The Hunger Games’ will open in theaters nationwide starting September 28th.
