Nogizaka46’s latest single sold 233,000 copies + tops Oricon chart
Idol group Nogizaka46’s 4th single “Seifuku no Mannequin” (released on December 19th) has proven to be a success, selling 233,000 copies in the first week, and topped the Oricon weekly chart for the week of December 31st!
The first week sales for the single increased compared to their previous effort, “Hashire! Bicycle” (released in August), which sold 187,000 copies in its first week. This is the first single for them to sell over 200,000 copies during the first week since their debut.
Moreover, this is the 3rd consecutive single for the group to top the chart, as their 2nd single “Oide Shampoo” (released in May), and the 3rd single “Hashire! Bicycle” also grabbed No.1 spot on the rankings. Notably, this is the first time in 6 years for any artist to top the chart with 3 singles during their debut year since KAT-TUN achieved the accomplishment back in 2006.
As a female artist, both Iwasaki Hiromi (in 1975) and NMB48 (in 2011) have topped the chart with their 2 singles in their debut year, but Nogizaka46 is the only female artist to top the chart with 3 singles.
Nogizaka46’s captain Sakurai Reika commented, “About this time last year, we were preparing for out debut single. Who would think we could make a record as a female artist one year later? Nogizaka46 will continue running up the uphill for our 2nd year, so please continue to support us.”
